Description of the Watch
The Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime Ref. 5175R-001 is a landmark in haute horlogerie, created to commemorate the brand’s 175th anniversary in 2014. As the most complicated wristwatch ever produced by Patek Philippe at the time, it showcases the pinnacle of mechanical innovation and artisanal craftsmanship. Crafted in hand-engraved 18K rose gold, this double-faced masterpiece houses 20 complications and is limited to just seven pieces worldwide, with one residing in the Patek Philippe Museum.
Overview
The Grandmaster Chime 5175R-001 is a testament to Patek Philippe’s dedication to excellence. Its reversible case allows wearers to alternate between two dials: one dedicated to timekeeping and chiming functions, and the other to the perpetual calendar. This innovative design, combined with its intricate movement, positions the watch as a true collector’s piece.
Design and Craftsmanship
Measuring 47.4 mm in diameter and 16.1 mm in thickness, the rose gold case is adorned with elaborate hand-engraved laurel wreath motifs, requiring over 100,000 hours of development, production, and assembly. The double-faced case features a patented reversing mechanism, allowing seamless rotation between the two dials. The time side boasts a silvery white opaline dial with Roman numerals and a guilloché center, while the calendar side presents a perpetual calendar with a four-digit year display.
Movement and Performance
At its core lies the manually wound Caliber 300 GS AL 36-750 QIS FUS IRM, comprising 1,366 components. This movement offers a 72-hour power reserve for timekeeping and a 30-hour reserve for the chiming functions. Operating at 25,200 vibrations per hour (3.5 Hz), it ensures precise timekeeping and reliable performance.
